Your Peak Power

2. Estimate Your Peak Power

Once you’ve estimated your total electricity load, you need to figure out the maximum (peak) electricity you will need to draw at any given time. To determine your peak power load, simply add up the rated power/wattage of each of the appliances/electrical loads you think might ever be running at once, considering user behaviour in your home/office/farm.

Consider, for example, that you might be watching television with the lights on while you do a few minutes of ironing and that your water pump and high efficiency refrigerator also turn on automatically. This could be your peak load.

Refer to Energy Demand Data on this site to note the most “power hungry” appliances which may be operating simultaneously.
