07/20/2007 - Majority of respondents support wind farms

A survey conducted by Innovative Research Group gauged Ontarians who live in areas where wind development projects are currently in place. They found that:

- Nine in ten residents agree that wind energy is an environmentally friendly way to meet Ontario’s energy needs

- Two-thirds strongly agree renewable energy is the responsible thing to do

- 3 out of 4 believe wind farms symbolize a greener future for Canada

- 89% of respondents who live within one mile of wind farms support its development

- Seven in-ten are not nervous about wind farms being located near them

- support for wind farms increases as communities become increasingly familiar
