CanWEA Seminar Series

Building the Wind Energy Supply Chain in Canada
Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre
Toronto, Ontario
June 9-10, 2010
Opportunities in Canada’s wind energy supply and value chains have never been better. Worldwide, it is estimated that $1 trillion will be invested over the next ten years in new wind energy facilities and that more than 1.75 million jobs will be created in this rapidly growing industry. In Canada, supply chain development already has tremendous momentum, driven by strong provincial policies such as Ontario’s Green Energy Act and Quebec’s Energy Strategy 2006-2015, both of which include stringent domestic content requirements. At the same time, there are strong opportunities in the wind energy value chain, through the provision of construction, transportation, engineering and O&M services to a growing industry.
This two day national event will provide an opportunity both for new companies to learn about what it takes to enter the market and for established companies to build their networks and learn of new growth areas for their businesses. The Seminar will provide:
- An introduction to wind turbine technology and the wind energy supply and value chains
- A look at Ontario’s domestic content requirements, as well as other provincial policies that are driving supply chain development
- An examination of the requirements and certifications that new entrants must meet to enter the wind energy supply and value chains
- An overview of regional opportunities, highlighting the work of leading Economic Development Offices (EDOs) to attract supply chain investment
- Case studies of Canadian companies that have successfully entered the wind energy supply and value chains
- Networking opportunities with leading wind turbine OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers
Wind 101 Optional Breakfast Session (6:30AM – 8:30AM June 9th)
Wind 101 is intended for Wind Matters attendees that are investigating opportunities in the wind industry for the first time, and other interested in a comprehensive review. Wind 101 will provide participants the basics of the North American wind industry, including an overview of how a wind turbine works and its components, the major wind turbine OEM’s and the structure of the supply and value chains that support them. It will also explain the process of developing a wind farm, from site selection and resource studies, to construction and turbine erection, to operations and maintenance over the life of the project.
