CanWEA Wind Energy Forum

In April 2010, CanWEA will be holding its first ever Wind Energy Forum. This event will take the format of a mini-conference, offering 3 concurrent tracks covering the topics of Community Engagement, Wind Project Siting and Wind Resource Assessment and Performance. There will also be numerous networking and sponsorship opportunities at the Forum.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Community and stakeholder engagement play a significant role in the successful development of any wind farm project. This track will focus on the fundamentals of open and clear communication with key stakeholders, including: citizens, municipal officials, media, and landowners. Sessions and presentations will provide important information and best practice techniques on the various aspects of stakeholder engagement such as working with local media, conducting a successful open house, dealing respectfully and effectively with opposition, and answering questions on wind.

WIND RESOURCE ASSESSMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Resource assessment and measurement of wind farm performance are some of the most critical aspects of planning, developing and operating a wind farm. Access to state of the art technologies and operating principles will ensure wind development projects are properly sited, and that they function to their highest potential. If a wind farm is not operating to its full potential, understanding the reasons for a decline in performance is key to optimizing future operational procedures, with a goal to improve wind farm output. This track will focus on the latest developments of wind resource assessment and performance measurement techniques, and will provide sessions and presentations on the technologies and approaches to successful and accurate resource assessment and operating performance measurement techniques.

WIND PROJECT SITING
The Siting Track at this year’s first ever forum will replace CanWEA’s annual Siting Seminar and once again provide up to date information on siting issues as well as the environmental assessment components of wind energy development. All the sessions will be designed to present relevant, new and informative technical data and research spanning a variety of topics.
