Challenges and Opportunities Associated with the Integration of Wind Energy into the Ontario Grid
Ontario has seen very rapid growth in wind energy production in the province and significantly more wind energy is expected to be added to the provincial grid over the next few years. As a variable source of electricity generation, wind energy presents some unique challenges and opportunities for Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the organization responsible for ensuring that electricity supply is available to meet electricity demand. Bruce Campbell, Vice-President, Resource Integration with the IESO will offer some reflections on the experience of integrating wind energy into the Ontario grid to date and some perspective on what lies ahead as Ontario continues to grow its wind energy capacity.
